THE RUST BUCKET
As the story goes, Jack found himself in a dimly lit cantina on a remote space station, nursing a drink and trying to forget the latest curveball life had thrown his way. Suddenly, a boisterous group of space pirates burst into the establishment, their rowdiness causing a stir. Among them was Buck, a cocky, self-assured pirate who caught Jack's eye. Buck boasted about the ship he had recently won in a game of cards at the same bar a few nights earlier and challenged anyone in the cantina to a high-stakes game of chance to win it from him.

Without a second thought, Jack's sudden burst of confidence and recklessness drove him to accept Buck's challenge, knowing that he had nothing left to lose. The final hand was dealt, and Jack's heart raced with anticipation as he looked at his cards. He couldn't believe his luck - a full house! He knew he had them beat and went all in, putting everything on the line, from his prized leather jacket to the boots on his feet.

As the players revealed their cards, Jack's grin grew wider and wider. But just as he was about to claim his prize, one of the players revealed a hidden card - a joker that had somehow slipped into the deck. Jack was livid. He accused the pirates of cheating, but they merely laughed and waved off his concerns. Undeterred, Jack proposed a new bet. Spurred by his frustration and the alcohol in his system, he offered a sleek and highly advanced AI chip, which he claimed he had stolen on his last job. With lightning-fast analysis and predictive abilities, it was a prized possession coveted by tech companies, military organizations, and even governments, making it worth far more than the ship itself.

Buck and his crew inspected the AI chip. Jack suggested that if he could navigate the ship and fly through the dangerous nearby asteroid field unharmed, he could keep the ship and the AI chip. If Jack failed to navigate the asteroid field and somehow survived, Buck and his crew would get the ship, the AI chip, and Jack's services and wide network of connections to sell the valuable scrap on the ship. Jack's life suddenly had little value as Buck and his crew eagerly accepted the bet, relishing the opportunity to obtain the new chip for their selfish gains and watching Jack meet his demise. But Jack had no intention of playing into their hands. He knew the risks were too great, so he took off with the ship. Jack and the ship disappeared into the vast expanse of space, leaving the pirates with nothing but their frustration and anger at being duped.

Despite their disappointment, the pirates eventually settled on the realization that the chip was still in their possession. However, as they installed the AI chip onto their vessel, they quickly realized something was off. The chip was supposed to be a highly advanced and expensive AI system, but it was nothing more than a cheap knockoff with faulty programming that caused their ship's systems to malfunction. It was almost impossible to navigate through space, and they knew they had been had. From that day on, Jack became a wanted man among the space pirate community, constantly avoiding Buck and his crew as he modified the ship, slowly turning it into his own personal vessel.

He has since named the ship "The Rust Bucket." Despite its shoddy appearance and various malfunctions, The Rust Bucket has become Jack's home, and he uses it to get by, taking on odd jobs throughout the galaxy and assembling temporary crews or transporting people when he needs to. While he dreams of owning a better ship someday, the Rust Bucket is his one true companion for now.

THE INTERIOR
CARGO BAY
As you step through the hatch, you are greeted by the sprawling cargo bay. The space is cluttered with crates, boxes, and scattered equipment, all pointing to the ship's dual purpose as a cargo transporter and tinkering workshop. Makeshift workstations line the walls for repairs, while a small storage area sits tucked away in the back. The dim lighting casts deep shadows across the metal walls and floor, giving the space an eerie atmosphere. This is the only area on this level of the ship that is easily accessible, as the living quarters and cockpit require a climb up a ladder.
THE COMMON SPACES
Moving towards the front of the ship, you'll come across the functional living quarters. Exiting the cargo bay, you'll find yourself in a narrow hallway that's lined with lockers filled with tools, equipment, and extra supplies for the crew. At the end of the hallway, a ladder leads to another long hallway with doors that lead to individual quarters. While the rooms are not spacious or luxurious, they provide enough room for a twin-sized bed, small desk, and narrow closet. The walls in each room are made of the same gray metal as the rest of the ship.

You'll find the communal area at the end of the hallway, which is slightly more spacious than the individual quarters. A circular table surrounded by a few chairs is the room's centerpiece. In one corner, there's a small kitchenette equipped with a sink, a mini-fridge, a compact stove, and a coffee maker that seems to malfunction more often than not. There is a small couch, and a couple of beanbag chairs scattered around the room secured to the floor with powerful velcro for when the artificial gravity onboard malfunctions. Among the room, miscellaneous posters, paintings, and signs are fastened to the wall - all mementos from Jack's travels.

As you pass through the hallway of individual quarters, you'll come across a small door on your right that leads to the shared bathroom. Despite the overall roughness of the ship, the bathroom is kept relatively clean, with gleaming white tiles lining the walls and floor. The shower is enclosed with a slightly rusty sliding door, and the sink is an old stainless steel basin with a single faucet. The toilet is a standard model, with a lid that doesn't close properly. It's not a spa, but it gets the job done.

The ship was designed with function over comfort in mind. When Jack stole the ship, much of the furnishing was there, but he has learned to make the most of it.
MEDICAL BAY
The tiny medical bay on the Rust Bucket is a compact, well-organized space with enough room to accommodate one patient at a time. It is located on the ship's lower deck near the engine room and is accessed via a narrow doorway by the cargo bay. The medical bay is divided into a treatment area and a storage area.

The treatment area contains a single biobed with various sensors and monitors attached, a small sink, and a cabinet with basic medical supplies such as bandages, syringes, and medications. The biobed is a high-tech piece of equipment that can scan a patient's body, diagnose injuries or illnesses, and administer treatments such as medication or even minor surgeries. It is controlled via a touchscreen panel on the side of the bed.

The storage area is a small closet-like space with shelves filled with additional medical supplies, including spare parts for the biobed and emergency equipment such as oxygen tanks and defibrillators. A small desk with a computer terminal provides the ship's medical database access.

However, it is not without its problems. One common issue is the biobed sensors, which occasionally give false readings or malfunction altogether, leading to incorrect diagnoses and treatments. Additionally, the biobed's robotic arm, used for minor surgeries, can sometimes malfunction and cause harm to the patient. The medical bay has limited resources, so in the case of major injuries or illnesses, one may need to improvise or seek outside medical assistance.
COCKPIT
As you step into the cockpit of the Rust Bucket, you'll find yourself in a cramped and cluttered space. Wires and tubes run haphazardly along the walls, and the console is a mishmash of scavenged components. The control surfaces are creaky and worn, and the control yoke has a peeling leather-wrapped grip. Some buttons, switches, and dials are missing or cracked, but everything works surprisingly well.

Despite the cockpit's dilapidated appearance, the technology and weapons systems are well-maintained. The main control console is a tangle of wires and circuit boards, but everything functions seamlessly. The weapons are a mix of salvaged and custom-built components, and Jack has meticulously maintained them. The targeting computer is particularly impressive, allowing the pilot to track multiple targets simultaneously.

The pilot and co-pilot's chairs are well-worn seats salvaged from other long-forgotten spacecraft, like much of the furniture on board. The backrest is covered in duct tape, and the armrests are held together by a jumble of screws and bolts. The screens in the cockpit are a mixture of old and new technology, with some displaying static or flickering images that are usually corrected with a little "percussive maintenance." Jack has updated others to something more modern and well-maintained. The screens view various information, such as navigation, ship systems, weapon status, communications, and live feeds from external cameras around the ship.

Despite its rough interior, the cockpit is surprisingly resilient. It has been patched up and modified so often that Jack jokes it's nearly indestructible. The cockpit's ramshackle appearance may be unnerving, but over the years, and through many favors, Jack has maintained the space and made significant upgrades. Though the ship may not have the newest or shiniest equipment, he has kept the Rust Bucket in the air for far longer than anyone would have thought possible.
TECHNOLOGY & WEAPONS
ANTIGRAVITY SYSTEM
The antigravity system on the Rust Bucket works by emitting a field from graviton emitters throughout the ship's structure that counteracts the force of gravity on the ship. The ship's computer continuously adjusts the output of the emitters to maintain a consistent level of antigravity. The emitters are placed strategically throughout the ship to provide uniform coverage, and the system is designed to be energy-efficient.

However, despite its efficient design, the antigravity system can malfunction. When it does, it can cause sudden shifts in gravity or temporary loss of gravity altogether. Crew members might suddenly find themselves floating around or crashing into things. Sometimes, a malfunction randomly causes gravity fluctuations, causing crew members to feel weightless one moment and suddenly twice as heavy the next. In such cases, the ship's crew must quickly diagnose and repair the malfunctioning emitter to restore the antigravity system to normal functioning.
WEAPONS
The weapons system on the Rust Bucket is a combination of salvaged and custom-built components, which the crew has meticulously maintained over the years. The ship's arsenal includes laser cannons, plasma turrets, and missile launchers.

The laser cannons are the primary weapon of the Rust Bucket, and they operate by firing focused beams of light at enemy targets. The plasma turrets work similarly but shoot plasma bolts instead of lasers. The missile launchers are used for long-range attacks and can be armed with various types of missiles, such as concussion or homing.

The weapons system is controlled through the ship's main control console, which is a tangle of wires and circuit boards. The targeting computer, a particularly impressive technology, allows the pilot to track multiple targets simultaneously and adjust the aim of the ship's weapons. However, the targeting computer can occasionally malfunction, causing the system to lose track of targets or lock onto unintended ones. The ship's weapons also require a significant amount of power to function, and if the power supply is compromised, the weapons may not work at all.

In addition to these malfunctions, the weapons system is also prone to overheating or misfiring if not properly maintained. Jack relies on his computer system to constantly monitor and repair the weapons system to ensure it functions when needed. Despite these challenges, the Rust Bucket's weapons system has proven effective in combat situations and has helped Jack survive many dangerous encounters.
STEALTH TECHNOLOGY
The Rust Bucket's stealth technology is the result of several advanced systems, some of which have been custom-made and jury-rigged. Stealth technology has been a primary focus of all the changes and maintenance made to the ship over the years.

To minimize its radar signature, the Rust Bucket's hull is coated with a specialized stealth coating made of a blend of various metals that can absorb or scatter incoming radar waves. Additionally, the ship employs a variety of countermeasures to prevent detection, including a jamming system that emits a broad-spectrum electromagnetic signal to disrupt enemy sensors and a chaff and flare system that can confuse and decoy incoming missiles.

The Rust Bucket's propulsion system is designed to minimize its acoustic and thermal signatures, using a combination of thrusters, plasma engines, and a magnetic field generator to propel the ship silently through space. However, this feature is used sparingly, as the specialized propulsion system and stealth technology require significant energy, quickly depleting the ship's reserves if used too frequently.

To further reduce the ship's heat signature, the Rust Bucket utilizes a liquid cooling system that circulates coolant through its critical systems, absorbing heat and venting it to space through a series of radiator panels.
